The position encompasses environmental underwriting to include reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks to ensure profitability. Communicate with underwriting management and national environmental product line leader on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate. Underwrite and select new business that will produce an underwriting profit. Review submissions and identify exposure and risk from information provided. Review terms, conditions and pricing. Underwrite renewal business and handle related servicing. Implement corrective measures on renewal accounts as needed. Monitor producers for profitability and production. Market products to producers by coordinating marketing plan with regional and national marketing associates. Participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required.
Desired Background:
Minimum 10 years of underwriting expertise in surplus lines, with at least 5 years in the environmental field.
Proven, recent expertise in complex environmental underwriting
Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of positions of increasing responsibility.
Four year college degree in environmental or a related science preferred.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
PC literate with emphasis on Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Must be a team player that enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment
Up to 25% travel

Develop and leverage productive agency/client relationships through a high level of visibility with agents, brokers and clients and a disciplined (i.e., planning and follow-up for agent/broker and prospective end customer visits/meetings) in support of business objectives. Maintain a collaborative relationship with Home Office colleagues. Demonstrate superior customer service standards (consistency, quick response, knowledge of products). Convince / persuade others to help achieve underwriting, sales and production goals and understand and work towards strategic objectives. Qualifications: § Bachelors Degree with emphasis in business, preferably finance or accounting, or, equivalent work experience § Minimum of 4 years of Commercial Surety underwriting experience of which at least 2 years is current Commercial Surety underwriting experience § Proven competency in financial analysis and general underwriting § Strong interpersonal skills § Effective written and verbal communication skills § Must have the ability to work independently and have a business focus Competent computer skills including knowledge of Excel and Word
